Within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), certain codes have been assigned for use in providing Toll-Free Services. The "assigned" codes include 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, 833 and 822. Currently, 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, and 833 are in use. The remaining code of 822 is reserved for future growth and expansion. The 7 active Toll-Free codes contain certain NPA-NXX combinations that have been ‘closed’ for various reasons. If an NPA-NXX combination has been designated as "closed", no numbers within that code may be used for providing Toll-Free services within the NANP area. The tables below provide lists of the "closed" codes within each of the Toll-Free NPAs as well as a brief explanation as to why the code has been designated as "closed". All codes not listed as "closed" are open and therefore available for use. Please Note: Toll-Free Numbers 800-555-0199 and 888-555-0199 are utilized by the entertainment industry in movies and television programming.
